Deadly partnership between a fungus and a beetle<\/h1>\n

\nIn the nordic mythology Elm and Ash were seen as Eve and Adam, in Southern France the elms stand for justice, in America elm is the tree of freedom. And all over the world elm is not only regarded as a most majestic tree, but also useful because of its strong and beautiful wood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nSince 1922 this tree is in constant danger: The enemy is a tiny fungus by name of Ophiostoma ulmi<\/em>. And this fungus is transported mainly by the elm beetle (Scolytus scolytus<\/em> or Scolytus multistriatus)<\/em> which lives on the elm. The eggs of this beetle develop into larvae which feed inside the cambium of the elm and distribute the deadly fungus when they leave the trees to find new trees for feeding.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
